Contributing to the RSC Standard
Rangelands cover nearly half the Earth’s land surface and are vital for biodiversity, climate resilience, food systems and the livelihoods of millions of pastoralists worldwide. The Rangeland Stewardship Council is developing a global standard for rangeland stewardship—now referred to as the RSC Standard (previously the Global Rangelands Standard, GRS)—to strengthen how these landscapes are recognised, supported and valued, and to unlock greater investment in rangelands and the communities who depend on them.
This consultation is an opportunity to help shape the direction and design of the Standard, ensuring it reflects real-world pastoral contexts, is fair and workable across diverse systems, and can deliver meaningful outcomes for people, land and livestock.
The RSC Standard has been shaped through ongoing dialogue and engagement with stakeholders. This consultation focuses on the current iteration v0.1 of the Standard, incorporating substantial recent development.
Purpose of this consultation
This consultation aims to:
- Test whether the current iteration reflects real-world pastoral systems
- Strengthen technical robustness and global applicability
- Identify key gaps, risks and unintended consequences
- Ensure the Standard is appropriate across diverse rangeland contexts

About the process
This consultation builds on previous engagement and focuses on the current version of the RSC Standard. Feedback will be used to refine its foundation and inform subsequent development and engagement.
